What is my role?
- You will be responsible for safeguarding the welfare of all Club members, including players, umpires, volunteers and coaches and especially members under 18.
- Ensure sufficient DBS checks are carried out to safeguard vulnerable members.
- Ensure confidentiality is maintained.
- Liaise with other section’s welfare officers.
- Represent players within disciplinary proceedings or to take part in those proceedings as a member of the Disciplinary Committee.
What else can you tell me about the role?
You will assist in the safeguarding of children and young people by maintaining appropriate child safeguarding and protection policies and procedures. You will be the first point of contact for the England Hockey Board (EHB) Child Welfare Officer and for all staff, volunteers, parents and members who have concerns about welfare, poor practice or abuse.
You should familiarise yourself with and promote the EHB reporting and recording abuse procedures, the EHB best practice guidance, EHB code of ethics & behaviour and anti-discriminatory practice and all corresponding WHHC codes and guidance.
You will need to register your contact details with EHB, permit the Club to apply for a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check on your behalf and undertake the Safeguarding and Protecting Children course (online).
How much time will I need to give to the role?
Approximately 6 hours per month.
